An artist, mother, and activist, Sammie is the Co-Founder of Mothers on the Inside which helps and empowers incarcerated women in New York State. Societal movements addressing social inequality, and the growing concern for social and environmental determinants of health outcomes, present a unique prism through which the arts can be channeled to bridge gaps and foster well-being. 8 million people are incarcerated, the Rehabilitation through the Arts (RTA) program in New York helps develop essential life skills, promoting a justice system approach based on human dignity rather than punishment.
